Two years have passed since the seige and the empire has taken back the city of Feinster. Many people have joined the varden in their work and still the empire is struggling to make ends meet so they can defeat those who hate them.

Eragon and Saphira have decided to travel to the abandon island of Vroengang, hoping to find answers that might help the Varden. Answers were sought and answers were found. The old dragon came forward, a large black dragon, bigger then even the mentor of Saphira and beautiful. He is graceful, even though he is large. Knowing the color of the beautiful dragon is familiar he brings them to the only place he would allow another dragon or even a human... Elf...

Many eggs are hidden in the old Capital of the Dragon Riders, Doru Araeda. He was given three eggs for the Surda People and Three eggs for the Elven Forest. He knows that three will hatch for Elves and three for humans, but he does not know which one. "Do not allow them to travel, protect them where you believes is perfect and only allow those who can get past the test." Those words were taken in and Eragon promised to do so. He also tells Eragon that when all six eggs have hatched to come and get more if he wishes.

After leaving, he past Murtagh flying south, however, they did not communicate, they just pasted from far away. Unknown to Eragon, Murtagh was heading to Sharktooth Island, hoping to get away for a little while, to rest and be with his dragon only. He found two unexpected things, two eggs to join with the other egg in the empire. He did not want to take them to the empire, but knew that the King would kill his dragon if he did not and he loaded them up and went back to the Capital of the empire and leaving them there.

So, nine eggs or more are out there, however, who will become the next rider? Who will protect the people of the Varden? What will happen next?
